Genesis 17:1-2 Walking in Obedience
Genesis 17:1-2 (KJV) And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.
Abraham has sojourned in Canaan for 24 years. He left his homeland when he was 75 to heed God’s call. God promised him that He would greatly multiply his descendants. His descendants will inherit the land of Canaan. And yet, he was still without a child. His wife has passed the age of child-bearing.
Walking in obedience to God means that he would trust God for all that He has promised. Although he could not see how that is possible by his own understanding, God strengthened his faith by assuring him that He is the Almighty God.
One year later, God would gift Abraham and Sarah with baby Isaac. The journey of faith indeed requires His people to take God at His Word. Such is the blessed life with God, trusting Him and see His promises fulfilled.
May the people of God walk before Him, by their obedience, prove Him faithful. Amen.
