1 John 3:5 Christ’s Redemptive Purpose
1 John 3:5 (KJV) And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
Jesus Christ entered human history, the purpose of Christ’s incarnation is that He may be the sinless Son of God to take away our sins. The sin problem that was dealt with in Christ is God’s only solution to free man from the misery and depravity of sin.
The coming of Christ cannot be denied but His being denied is well attested in human history. Scripture tells us emphatically in John 1:11-13 (KJV) He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
The glorious work of reconciliation was transacted at the cross where Christ was crucified. There Christ was nailed to the cross, there He shed His blood for the remission of our sins. Christ’s sacrifice was accepted because in Him is no sin. He was the unblemished Lamb of God that will take away our sin. To be redeemed by Christ in effect crucified all our lusts and carnal affections upon the cross so that the people of God may be dead to sin, to live a holy life.
Praise God for the power of the blood. Amen.
