1 Timothy 2:1-2 For Kings and for All That Are in Authority
1 Timothy 2:1-2 (KJV) I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
The people of God are transformed by the power of God as the gospel is preached. The word of God brings to captive and subjection the riotous whom the Apostle Paul called the lawless and disobedient, unholy and profane, these are contrary to sound doctrine.
It is God’s grace that enables unbelievers to be transformed to lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. Worldly ambitions of a covetous nature are curtailed. The believer is exhorted to pray and intercede for the eternal well-being of others. He names them – for all men, for kings, and for all that are in authority.
We recognize the admonition of the Lord in Proverbs 24:21 (KJV) My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:
Committing to God all that are in authority that righteousness and truth may prevail for His glory. Amen.
