1 John 3:9 To Be Born of God
1 John 3:9 (KJV) Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
To be born of God is to possess the seed of holiness. Therefore, whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin. This is a litmus test of the reality of the new life.
The Apostle John testified in an earlier verse – 1 John 3:6 (KJV) Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
This does not mean that believers will not sin because the power of sin is not immediately destroyed in us. Rather, the process of sanctification in the believer is gradual and till the day when we see Christ.
He explains in 1 John 3:2-3 (KJV) Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
The true believer will grow in grace and live for the glory of God. Amen.
