Philippians 3:14 I Press Toward the Mark
Philippians 3:14 (KJV) I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
The word “press” is an intensive expression of a godly man’s pursuit, he pursues after God and His righteousness. For the Apostle Paul, he saw the prize at the end of the race and he is giving his all, that he may win the approval of God.
He was being tasked by God to give the gospel to the Gentiles. Yet he understood that this task is not his but His. Therefore, there is a restfulness and strength that comes with the endeavour. He understood that God’s power rests in Him to work out His perfect will.
Yielding himself to Him, he finds his work a most highly regarded vocation that he will give his all to accomplish. The Roman empire was lit with the gospel’s light, souls were won to Christ, and churches were established to the glory of God.
There is a work for us too given by Jesus Himself to us in Matthew 28:18-20 (KJV) And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
