Proverbs 3:1-2 A Father’s Love

Proverbs 3:1-2 (KJV)  My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

These verses give the general principles for life’s prosperity and success. This is how life may be measured as being rich and abundant in God’s sight. Solomon does so by giving an actionable proposition for success in verses 1 and a description for that success in verses 2. He tells us that the indispensable wisdom of God for life’s success is found in His revealed Word, the Bible, and we are to imprint it so deeply within our souls that it will provide the needful guidance for life. We are to immerse ourselves fully and wholesomely in God’s Word so that it produces life’s eternal fruit in its season.

He tells us that consistent hard work in searching the Scriptures and imbibing of its principles that lead to the determined and purposeful application of these principles will bring God’s blessing to our lives.

The father speaks to his dear son. The father articulates the laws and commandments that have their origin in God. The law includes teaching and example – it is the source and secret of how life can be lived to the full here and in preparation for heaven.

Only those who have personally appropriated God’s law can commend it to others. Peace comes with a right relationship with God. It is a by-product of life with God. The Lord bless the godly father. Amen.
