Psalm 10:17 The Desire of the Humble
Psalm 10:17 (KJV) LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:
God hears the prayer of His people, He hearkens to the humble. The humble is dependent upon the Lord. Our Lord Jesus describes such a man as having as poverty of spirit in Matthew 5:3 (KJV) Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
The word “humble” – עָנָו ‘ānāw – means “poor, afflicted, oppressed, meek” used here describes the poor and weak. oppressed by the rich and powerful.
This word “humble” is first used in Psalm 9:12 (KJV) When he maketh inquisition for blood, he remembereth them: he forgetteth not the cry of the humble.
Also, in where the word is translated “poor” Psalm 9:18 (KJV) For the needy shall not alway be forgotten: the expectation of the poor shall not perish for ever.
Such is the blessing upon His people who call upon Him described by the prophet Isaiah as the meek – Isaiah 29:19 (KJV) The meek also shall increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.
The preparation of the heart of the humble is that he may increase their joy in the Lord and rejoice he has Him for his Lord. Amen.
