2 Peter 1:3-4 Pertaining to Life and Godliness
2 Peter 1:3-4 (KJV) According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
God’s divine power is manifested in the hearts of His children through faith in the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ. Such is the power that faith in the gospel brings. It genders life and godliness.
Such faith brings us into the divine realm undergirded by the Word of God that enables us to be partakers of God’s nature, a holy nature that helps us escape the corruption that is in the world. Human fallenness is dealt with and human lust of every form is put to death.
Such a life is indeed a glorious and virtuous life that is liveable, tenable because the Holy Spirit’s influence in us brings about that divine power.
The misery of sin expunged, true joy and peace fill our hearts. This is the new life in Christ that is so abundant and free! What glories shine, what joy are ours, what wondrous blessing we must see. Amen.
