1 Peter 5:8-9 Resist Steadfast in Faith
1 Peter 5:8-9 (KJV) Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
There is a prowling adversary that seeks to pound upon the unguarded of God’s people. We are exhorted to be sober. To be calm and collected in spirit, temperate and circumspect, the devil is resisted. We are to be vigilant. To give strict attention, cautious and active. On guard and ready for the enemy’s ferocious engagement.
There will be affliction experienced, and pain to bear, this is to be expected in this warfare, Job learned this. Yet faith is the shield, and faith brings victory. The battle is the Lord’s and He brings accomplishes His divine purpose for His glory.
Likewise, the Apostle Paul exhorts us in 1 Thessalonians 5:6-8 (KJV) Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
Brethren, let us therefore watch and pray. Amen.
