1 Peter 2:9 A Chosen Generation
1 Peter 2:9 (KJV) But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
Every generation of Christians stands in the gap for their generation. Israel was God’s chosen nation as a witness to the nations of the world.
Deuteronomy 4:5-7 (KJV) Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it. Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people. For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for?
God’s laws distinguished them. It was God’s laws that made them distinct from the nations of the world. Our law in Singapore has God’s law as its root. As long as God’s laws are upheld, the nation prospers under God. When God’s laws are repealed and lawlessness is upheld, the nation will suffer.
Proverbs 14:34 (KJV) Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
When sin is mistaken for what is right (by a new and dangerous term called “inclusiveness”), when lawlessness is upheld and is given a wrongful exaltation, disaster looms ahead. When God judged Sodom and Gomorrah, He rained fire and brimstone upon the cities, utterly destroying them. What great destruction, remember Lot’s wife!
May God be merciful to us. Amen.
