Psalm 1:2 Delight in the Law of the LORD
Psalm 1:2 (KJV) But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
The delight of the psalmist for the law of the LORD spurs him to dwell in His Word day and night. There was a hunger and thirst after righteousness, such a soul shall be nourished and filled.
The word “delight” has various shades of meaning. It means “pleasure, desire”; concretely its object is a valuable thing, precious, hence there is an enthusiastic willingness and purpose toward it.
The picture of reading the Word day and night speaks of a consistent and constant and round-the-clock desire that does not diminish with the weakening of physical strength. The inner man is renewed as we take time to think, ponder, chew over, and dwell upon what the LORD is impressing upon our hearts. Amen.
