1 Chronicles 4:10 Kept From Evil

1 Chronicles 4:10 (KJV)  And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested. 

Jabez whose name means “sorrow” sought the Lord’s blessing for his life.

Proverbs 10:22 (KJV)  The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. 

Seeking the Lord to enlarge his coast, to expel the Canaanites from the land according to God’s stipulations received God’s affirmation and enabling.

He sought the Lord to protect him from evil so it might not overtake and cause him grief. The Lord granted his prayer and bless his request.

Like the psalmist, Jabez has sought to walk according to the ways of God therefore the Lord’s hand was there to uphold him – Psalm 119:173 (KJV)  Let thine hand help me; for I have chosen thy precepts. 

All praise to our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ who conquered sin and death and the evil one on our behalf, giving us everlasting life, and the blessing of being His witness on earth. May we shine for Him this new day. Amen.
