2 Timothy 1:7 Of Power, and of Love and of a Sound Mind

2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Fear is described by the Apostle Paul as a spirit, the spirit of fear incapacitates. It is not given by God. God is not the originator of such a spirit. This was that spirit that causes the ten spies to give a report, contrary to God’s will, to give up entering the Promised Land.

Rather God has given us spiritual strength to do His will. He has endowed us with His love to obey His commandments and He has given us a sound mind – discipline and self-control against temptation and fiery trials that come our way.

Joshua and Caleb were endued with a courageous spirit to trust God that they are able to overcome the giants in the land. It is heartening to know that Joshua and Caleb entered the Promised Land.
