Psalm 119:34 Prayer for Understanding

Psalm 119:34 (KJV)  Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart. 

The psalmist pleads with God to grant him “understanding”. It means to discern, to perceive, to observe, to pay attention to, to be intelligent, to be discreet, a wisdom that is imparted from God.

He prayed that the LORD would illumine his heart to understand the ways of God. He had a mind to keep the laws of God and with God’s guidance, he may observe it with his whole heart.

This is a consecrated heart, dedicated to walking with God. This was the life of Enoch, of Noah, of Abraham, of David.

May this be the prayer of every seeking heart. Amen.
