1 Timothy 6:12 Lay Hold of Eternal Life
1 Timothy 6:12 (KJV) Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
The word “fight” means to struggle, literally (to compete for a prize), figuratively (to contend with an adversary), to endeavour to accomplish something — fight, labour fervently, and strive with the context of doing so for the faith in Christ. The end result is the blessing of eternal life and the rewards of that good fight.
There is a good purpose for living the life that life of faith, by which he was called by Christ to live. For the Apostle Paul he testified in 2 Timothy 3:10-11 (KJV) But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.
The Lord was there to strengthen him and to energize him for His Name’s sake. Yielding to the Lord, he exhorts Timothy to persevere likewise for His glory. Amen.
