Jonah 2:7 My Soul Fainted Within Me
Jonah 2:7 (KJV) When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.
In the midst of great travail, Jonah in the belly of the fish cries out to God. His trial was so great that his soul seemed to be losing consciousness, as it were, he exclaimed, “My soul fainted within me.” At that moment of weakness, he turned to the LORD. Feeble as he was, in the weakness of his body and the travail of his soul, he understood and realised that in the LORD only is his salvation. He calls out to the LORD in desperation.
Feeble was the utterance in the fainting moments of his soul, his prayer in strength did come before God – my prayers came in unto thee, into thine holy temple. What a relief! It was a humanly speaking hopeless situation, yet as it turned out, he found deliverance.
The LORD was shaping the resolve of His servant to do His bidding, a task he detests, yet a task, he was made willing to carry out for His glory. Out of it came great deliverance for a city and its inhabitants doomed for destruction. Amen.
