Lord’s Day, Vol. 11 No. 6
Much Thanksgiving to the LORD
Psalm 84:11 (KJV) For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
Last Lord’s Day, Blessed Hope Bible-Presbyterian Church remembered the Lord’s goodness for sustaining the church in the past 9 years with our 9th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service. This year is special because we also had a baptism and two Sisters-in-Christ who joined the church. Amidst a rainy season, the Lord answered our prayer, to grant us dry ground for our journey and safety for worshippers. There was a sumptuous fellowship meal for all present. Thank God for His provision.
The theme was “Lo, I am with you alway” (Matthew 28:20b). We recounted and extol the promise of our Lord Jesus Christ whose presence enabled us to do the gospel work amidst the pandemic. The church remained open and the Lord’s protection was evident throughout the year. It gives us much encouragement to renew our hearts to follow Him more fervently this new year. He is true to His promise, we may joyfully testify!
Thank God for the testimony of Jesus Christ in every local church that God established as a beacon of light, as the citadel of truth, and as a haven for lost souls to find comfort and security. This security that the gospel offers is eternal security. It is true and real security and safety. The gospel tells us we have eternal life through Jesus Christ. Why should we be afraid?
Hebrews 2:14-15 (KJV) Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
In God through Christ, we are eternally secure, we do not need to worry. He promises us of His care, we are more precious than many sparrows, even the hairs on our head He numbers, we are eternally secure because the Father in heaven takes care of us. This is the good news. The gospel is the power of God to save. Those who have received the good news, let us go out and share.
Blessed are those whose trust is in the LORD. He is a sun and a shield. A sun to warm our hearts in a cold, cruel and corruptible world. The LORD is our shield. Christ has given Himself to defend us by being with us. He stands before us to defend us against the attack of the evil one. We are secured in Him!
