Lord’s Day, Vol. 11 No. 7
5th Anniversary of Mandarin Outreach
It was a blessed time recounting the Lord’s goodness in beginning our Mandarin Outreach on 4 February 2018 at the Keith Barrage Room on the 2nd Level of the Salvation Army Building from 10 am to 11 am.
1 Corinthians 16:9 For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.
For the first time, we have a fellowship meal after service. Thank God for His provision of the Fellowship Hall to partake our meals.
The first convert of our Mandarin Outreach was Mr Chan Choong Shoung. He came to trust the Lord and profess faith in the Lord Jesus Christ on 29 January 2018 at the Alexandra Hospital. He was invited to attend our inaugural Mandarin Outreach Service on 4 February 2018. He was suffering from colon cancer. A second visit was made on 31 January 2018 where Mr Chan reaffirmed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
On the morning of 1 February 2018, the Lord took Mr Chan Choong Shoung home. There were two nights of vigil services and Mr Chan was buried at the Choa Chu Kang Christian Cemetery on 3 February at 3 pm. While evangelising to Mr Chan, his dear wife, Mrs Chan came to trust the Lord. Our second convert was Mrs Chan, the wife of the late Mr Chan. She received the Lord on 1 February 2018. She attended our inaugural service on 4 February 2018. Mrs Chan attended Catechism Classes and was baptized on 30 September 2018.
Our third convert was Mr Lee Khiak Khiam, who was baptised on 8 September 2018. He has since moved to Johore Bahru. The 4thconvert was Marianne Diampoc, the helper of Mrs Chan. She was baptised on 30 December 2018.
On 23 August 2020, the Lord brought a young man Daniel Gossage to attend the Mandarin Outreach Service. Daniel reaffirmed his faith on 20 December 2020 and was enlisted for National Service on 2 January 2021. He has since completed his National Service in November 2022.
The Lord brought Joel Toh in 2022 accompanied by his mother Faith Wong. Joel reaffirmed his faith on 25 December 2022. All praise and thanks to the Lord.
More recently, the Lord brought Lynn Xu and Zhong Zi Yi to join our worship.

John Sung Choruses
The Lord has laid upon our hearts to rediscover the choruses of Dr John Sung, the choruses that were sung during the revival meetings in the 1930s. With the help of Christopher Tan and Lucas Lek, the hymns are made into musical scores with piano accompaniment.
An example is given below of choruses 27:
In our Mandarin Worship, we have been using the Chinese-English, Every Home Sings that our late Pastoral Advisor asked that we would make a reprint of it. With the choruses from John Sung Choruses – Chinese-English Edition, of which there are 250 of them, additional choruses and hymns would be made. It is our prayer that the Lord will enable His people to memorize these short choruses and carry them in their hearts through life’s pathways. May the Lord help us in this gospel endeavour through songs. Amen.
Yours lovingly,
Pastor Lek Aik Wee
