Deuteronomy 6:5 Thou Shalt Love the LORD
Deuteronomy 6:5 (KJV) And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
Moses commanded Israel, God’s people, to love the LORD their God wholeheartedly. They are exhorted to commit, dedicate, and consecrate their all to their LORD. This is still far from the love that God has for His people. It is perfect love.
Nonetheless, it is rightly so that having received much, God’s people are commanded to live up to the high calling that God has placed upon them, choosing them to be His very own.
Luke 17:11-19 is recorded Jesus’ healing of ten lepers. All ten came to seek Jesus for mercy to heal their leprosy. Only one, a Samaritan returned to give God the glory. He was gloriously saved and blessed by God. Leprosy is a terrible skin disease that is contagious and consumes the body slowly but surely. A leper almost certainly faces a slow painful death. Life is miserable. Imagine the elation of the ten who were healed by Jesus of their leprosy.
Moses is seeking a reasonable response to give honour and glory where it is due. Moses himself was a recipient of God’s great grace and consecrated his life for God’s glory. Can we do anything less? May God bless our devotion to Him. Amen.
