Hebrews 12:24 Jesus the Mediator
Hebrews 12:24 (KJV) And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
The offering of Abel was accepted by the LORD whereas the offering of his brother Cain was rejected. Abel by faith offered a blood sacrifice to the LORD according to the stipulation of God. It prefigures the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, whose blood was effective to wash away our sins.
In the Levitical system of sacrifice, the Hgh Priest goes into the holy of holies once a year with a bowl carrying the blood of the lamb that was slain. He would sprinkle the blood on the mercy seat seven times to signify the cleansing of sin by the blood administered.
With the completion of Christ’s sacrifice at Calvary, all who look to Christ in faith will have their sins cleansed and be forgiven of all their transgressions. The wrath of God averted with no blood sacrifice further needed.
Indeed, Christ is the mediator of the new covenant in which we are partakers by faith. Hallelujah! Amen.
