Proverbs 15:31-33 Before Honour Is Humility
Proverbs 15:31-33 (KJV) The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise. He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding. The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
In the eyes of the LORD, the wise man is one who is humble to receive reproof, to hear words of instruction for his soul’s sake. The instruction of wisdom is therefore effectual in the heart of the God-fearer and such a one God will honour, for the tender and teachable heart findeth understanding and therefore save himself from many sorrows.
Hearkening to the LORD’s counsel, hearing the reproof of life, the willingness to admit wrong and the humbleness of heart to receive reproof and be corrected is precious in His sight, observes Solomon, the writer of these proverbs.
To reject the LORD, therefore, is utter folly. May the LORD put in us a tender and willing heart to follow hard after Him Amen.
