Psalm 138:3 Strength in My Soul
Psalm 138:3 (KJV) In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul.
The psalmist was cheered in the heart in the midst of trial when he cried to the LORD for help. He testified that the LORD “strengthenedst” him with strength in his soul. His inner man was renewed and strengthened as he sought the LORD.
The word “strengtheneth” “רָהַב” “rāhaḇ” literally “to press, assail, to rage, to be fierce”, which means “boldness” that is, “to render fierce, courageous”. The Spirit’s filling and empowerment to do His will.
This word “strength” is another word “עֹז” “‘ōz” speaks of strength, power, might, to be mighty, speaking of divine strength endowed to face the trial and the wherewithal to overcome in His strength.
It speaks of the efficacy of prayer as our Lord Jesus taught in Luke 18:1 (KJV) And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
Luke 18:7-8 (KJV) And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
Let His people not faint but pray and praise.
Psalm 138:1-2 (KJV) A Psalm of David. I will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto thee. I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.
Amen.
