Acts 2:46-47 With Gladness and Singleness of Heart
Acts 2:46-47 (KJV) And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
This was the scene of the infant church with daily prayers, the Lord’s Supper and fellowship meals. Expressions of brotherly love. There was gladness and singleness of heart, praise God, and having favour with all people. And so, new converts were added because God was wont to open the spiritual eyes of new souls added to the kingdom of God.
The new believers in the early church are to continually devote themselves to the Apostles’ teaching, to be instructed in the doctrines of Christ. Jesus has appointed his immediate disciples to be teachers for the new believers. Jesus taught with divine authority during his earthly ministry (Mark 1:22) and this task has now been entrusted to his disciples.
The Apostles are to be “teaching them to observe all things whatsoever” Jesus has commanded them (Matthew 28:20). This is the indoctrination emphasis of the new believers coming into the church and is a life-long process of sanctification by the Word of God (John 17:17, John 17:9, Ephesians 5:26). This refers to the public preaching of the Word of God, the doctrines of Christ. Amen.
