Lord’s Day, Vol. 12 No. 3
(1) A Time of Thanksgiving
The church, God willing, shall be gathered for the 10th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service on 28 January 2024 at 3 pm in the Worship Centre.
This year’s theme is “How Excellent Is Thy Lovingkindness, O God!” (Psalm 36:7).
The choir shall be presenting two songs – My Wonderful Shepherd and O Blessed Hope.
The Scripture text is Psalm 36:7-10 (KJV). 7 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. 8 They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures. 9 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light. 10 O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart.
(2) Homegoing of Stephen Shum Hon Fai
The Lord took Stephen Shum Hon Fai home to glory in the early morning of 20 January 2023. Thank God for His salvation grace upon Stephen. He was baptized on 25 December 2022.
Testimony of Stephen Shum Hon Fei
My husband, Stephen Shum Hon Fei, baptised a Roman Catholic when he was eighteen, was devout in his faith. His knowledge of Roman Catholicism was elementary, but he was sincere. Practising his faith, he was a very responsible and loving husband. His understanding of Roman Catholicism caused him to think that it was a sin to read the Bible.
He accompanied me to worship in Calvary Pandan, but was very set in his Roman Catholic thinking. But, when dementia started to do its damage on him, his belief in Roman Catholicism in the last few years gradually faded and he appeared more open to the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
We were introduced to Blessed Hope BP Church a few months ago by my youngest sister, Wai Kam, whose godly friend in Calvary Pandan had recommended that we attended BHBPC, which is nearer our home and more convenient for us to get to.
Stephen is keen to come to BHBPC to worship God every Sunday. He participates well during the worship service in singing his favourite hymns and the reciting of ‘The Lord’s Prayer’. He has been attentive to the sermons preached in spite of his progressing dementia.
These days, he is unable to express himself and needs assistance to communicate. When asked if he believes in Jesus, he nods his head to say, “Yes.”
We pray that Stephen will continue to receive the precious word of God and grow spiritually in BHBPC as he sojourns his evening years.
Written by Mrs Catherine Shum (Stephen’s wife)
Stephen, accompanied by Catherine, attended the Catechism Classes for new believers. Since 14 May 2023, Stephen came to church by a weekly van transport that carried him in a wheelchair. Thank God for His provision.
The Vigil/Funeral Service shall be held in the Glory Hall of the Garden of Remembrance on 21 January 2024 at 545pm. The cortege shall leave for the Choa Chu Kang Lawn Cemetery at 615pm. May the Lord grant good weather for the burial. Amen.
Yours lovingly,
Pastor Lek Aik Wee
