John 6:35 I Am the Bread of Life
John 6:35 (KJV) And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
Our Lord declared, “I am he bread of life”. What does He mean by that? He is the Giver and Sustainer of life. He uses the term “bread” to help His listeners understand and grasp the spiritual significance of His declaration. In a spiritual sense, all who come to Him shall be nourished, their soul shall not suffer spiritual malnutrition.
Jesus further declared that one who knows and believes that He is the Son of God, shall never thirst. Indeed, this was His declaration o he Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well – John 4:14 (KJV) But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
Our Lord showed clearly that He was referring of Himself when He explained in John 6:51 (KJV) I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
This is the gift of eternal life that Jesus will give to as many as will come to Him – John 1:12 (KJV) But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Amen.
