Hebrews 13:14-15 For Here We Have No Continuing City
Hebrews 13:14-15 (KJV) For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
An earthly home is a temporary home, there is a heavenly home that is the believer’s permanent home. In our Lord Jesus Christ, we shall one day receive our heavenly inheritance, accorded our heavenly mansion. That is the continuing city that the writer of Hebrews speaks of. We are to seek the one to come.
A glorious future, a future that we can now give praise and give thanks because the future is taken care of by the Lord Himself – John 14:1-4 (KJV) Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
A reality check with Scripture will help His people to take lightly the earthly things for they are needed here and now but limited on hindsight. And hence, able to rejoice when we are awakened to the truth to moderate our earthly ambition in the light of eternity – For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. Amen.
