Psalm 136:26 O Give Thanks Unto the God of Heaven

Psalm 136:26 (KJV) O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for his mercy endureth for ever.

The psalmist exhorts the people of God in a threefold thanksgiving song of praise – Psalm 136:1-3 (KJV) O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endureth for ever. O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for his mercy endureth for ever.

The LORD is the God of gods, the Lord of lords, His preeminence and dominion is highlighted. At the close of the psalm, the LORD is declared to be the God of heaven, a culmination of life for all of God’s people.

The LORD is Provider for all His creation, not just His people. But for His people, He is in particular Redeemer and Provider. Amen.
