1 John 5:20 Given Us Understanding

1 John 5:20 (KJV) And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

The revelation of Jesus Christ in His provision for sin and death is the precious knowledge that Scripture reveals. This is true because the Apostle John testifies in that he has seen the risen Christ and was with Him through His earthly ministry, witnessing His ascension to heaven.

In coming to Christ, a man receives eternal life through the atoning work of Christ in which his sins are forgiven when he comes in contrition of heart to Christ for salvation.

Jesus can save him because He is the true God. In Him is eternal life, He alone provides this blessed gift. Let His people therefore rejoice because He has given us understanding. Amen.
