Luke 12:6 Are Not five Sparrows Sold For Two Farthings
Luke 12:6 (KJV) Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?
The “”farthing” is the diminutive of the Roman copper coin, an “assarion” in the Greek, worth about about one-sixteenth of a denarius; the smallest coin, like a cent. The sparrow is almost worthless in the sight of man but precious in the sight of God – not one of them is forgotten before God.
Our Lord Jesus went on to tell His disciples they are very precious before God the Father in heaven to the extent that each strand of their hair, He numbers and cares for it – Luke 12:7 (KJV) But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.
Our Lord say these words in the face of persecution that the disciples are expected to face – Luke 12:4-5 (KJV) And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.
Trust in the care of God, follow Him by obeying His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. Amen.
