Romans 8:1 Walking After the Spirit

Romans 8:1 (KJV) There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

There is a life lived in Christ Jesus that is called a “walk … after the Spirit”. It refers to a life that is yielded to the leading of the Holy Spirit that indwells the believer. Such a life is pleasing to God in obedience to the Word of God.

There is no condemnation to one who lived after the Spirit. However, there is a contrast which the Apostle Paul was highlighting when he said these words, the life lived “after the flesh” is not pleasing to God.

The Apostle Paul explained this battle within the believer in Galatians 5:17 (KJV) For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

What exactly is life after the flesh? Galatians 5:19-21 (KJV) Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

What exactly is life after the Spirit? Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

May His people seek the life that is in Christ Jesus, bearing forth the Spirit’s fruit in its season. Amen.
