1 Thessalonians 5:8 Breastplate of Faith and Love and For An helmet the Hope of Salvation
1 Thessalonians 5:8 (KJV) But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
The Apostle Paul exhorts the church in Thessalonica and these words to the church today to be sober. There is a need to be awake and not drunken. Soberness speaks of alertness and watchfulness.
He went on to highlight two pieces of spiritual armour that the believer was to put one. First is the breastplate that protects the body from any fatal blow of the enemy on the heart and lungs, the vital organs. And second, the helmet that protects the head. He cited faith, love and hope as the spiritual virtues that protects the spiritual man from being overtaken by the enemy.
These are the spiritual traits that undergirds the gift of spiritual life and vitality. With these, let His people therefore stand fast against the onslaught of the enemy. Amen.
