Psalm 61:3-4 A Shelter and a Strong Tower

Psalm 61:3-4 (KJV) For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. 4 I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.

The psalmist lauded the LORD’S protection when he testified that the LORD has been a shelter for him, and a strong tower from the enemy. The enemy of the LORD has contended that the psalmist might be thwarted from doing the LORD’S will.

The psalmist understood that it is the LORD who has kept him and he sought to abide in the LORD’S tabernacle forever. He sought to trust in the protection of the LORD as a mother hen, her chicks.

The realization and conviction of the LORD’S care for him convinced him that he must abide in the LORD always. To abide is to seek and obey the LORD in His Word. This was how he rested in the LORD. This is how we too should rest in the LORD. Amen.
