Psalm 65:9-13 Thou Crownest the Year With Thy Goodness
Psalm 65:9-13 (KJV) Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it. 10 Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly: thou settlest the furrows thereof: thou makest it soft with showers: thou blessest the springing thereof. 11 Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness. 12 They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness: and the little hills rejoice on every side. 13 The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn; they shout for joy, they also sing.
As the year draws to a close, the LORD through the psalmist reminds His people to reflect upon the goodness of the LORD this year. The psalmist extols, “thy paths drop fatness”. With the LORD leading the way, indeed, these are paths that drop fatness. In other words, paths that seek to prosper the ways of His people.
Ways of righteousness, and holiness, the way through Christ, the way of atonement and thus peace and true joy! There is indeed great joy that God’s people should recount – “the little hills rejoice on every side….they shout for joy, they also sing.”
The imagery of the river of God that greatly enriches brings forth its crops abundantly, pictures the fruitness of God’s people in its seasons. Let His people therefore patiently and faithfully follow Him till the end. Just a little more and we are there. Amen.
