John 15:5 Fruitfulness Abiding in Christ

John 15:5 (KJV)  I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

When our Lord says “for without me ye can do nothing”. He means exactly that. Nothing means nothing. It means that life cannot go on without Christ sustaining and keeping it.

This is a reality that Christ sought for His disciples to understand, that vital union with Him. This comes by abiding in Christ. The word “abide” means to remain, to stay with Christ and not wander off.

There is a fruitfulness that a fruit branch that abides in the vine will show us as a physical picture of a spiritual reality of constant dependence and continual communion and fellowship with Christ. May this truth bless us with a closer walk with Him. Amen.
