1 John 3:8 The Son of God Was Manifested That He Might Destroy The Works of the Devil
1 John 3:8 (KJV) He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Christ came to destroy the works of the devil. What are the works of the devil? The works of sinning, transgressing the laws of God.
Truly, sin began not on earth when Adam fell in the Garden of Eden, rather it began in heaven when Lucifer or Satan fell but seeking to exalt himself above God – Isaiah 14:12-15 (KJV) How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
In Christ’s crucifixion even unto death, sin was dealt with by His sacrifice for men’s sin. The devil taken by surprise and forever defeated, and thus the devil is a vanquished foe. Amen.
