Opening Hebrews

The Epistle to the Hebrews was written between 64-67 AD during a time of great persecution of the Jews. This letter was written to exhort the sorely persecuted believers to standfast the keep faith.

Hebrews 10:35-36 (KJV) Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

Written by the Apostle Paul to the Hebrews (Heb. 13:6), it has a different approach to affirmthat the Messiah prophesied in the Old Testament, in the fullness of time, is fulfilled in Jesus Christ. The Deity of Christ is well proved that He is the exact representation of God, the Creator, Sustainer and only Saviour.

Hebrews 1:1-3 (KJV) God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

Christ is superior even to angels, He is the very God and very man whom they can entrust for their present and future – Hebrews 1:4 (KJV) Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

The exhortation to keep faith in Christ after He has so gloriously saved them by His atoning sacrifice as depicted in the Levitical system which they are familiar. Christ is indeed the Mediator of a better covenant (Heb. 8:6). Do not have a heart of unbelief (Heb. 4) but have faith (Heb. 11; 12:1-2).

Hebrews 12:2 (KJV) Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Yours lovingly,

Pastor Lek Aik Wee
