2 Timothy 1:7 Not The Spirit of Fear But Of Power, Of Love and Of a Sound Mind
2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV) For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
The Apostle Paul provides the contrast for the spiritual qualities in spiritual warfare as against spiritual deficiency. He further elaborates in 2 Timothy 1:8 (KJV) Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
The spirit of fear incapacitates the soldier of the gospel. It is a fearful spirit of cowardice instead of a boldness with assurance in the heart of the Lord’s presence to help pull down strongholds. The Apostle Paul was imprisoned for the gospel’s sake and it seemed to spell defeat for the gospel work but it is not.
The power of God is not diminished to help His servant accomplish His Great Commission. His love that is shed abroad by Holy Ghost in their hearts will be bestowed to accomplish the work and a sobriety of spirit taking hold clearly of the doctrines of God’s truth to dispel all falsehoods. Let His servants not be dismayed but press on with the gospel work. Amen.
