Isaiah 40:11 (KJV)  He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. 

The LORD is portrayed as the good shepherd who gather the lambs with his arm and carry them in his bosom and gently lead those that are with young. Not just the care but the shepherd feed his flock, leading them to green pastures and still waters.

The caring and the feeding sums up well the work of our LORD, the Shepherd of our souls, the Leader of our life. There is given to us the lambs that needed special care and attention due to their tenderness of age, needing to be carried.

The young of the sheep needed to be led gently, for they are defenceless and prone to predators, and require special care from the shepherd, the imagery of gathering the sheep in his arm and carry them in his bosom are actions of protection and gentle care. Indeed, the psalmist says “The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want”. Amen.
