Lord’s Day, Vol. 13 No. 17

Opening the Book of Revelation

The book of Revelation gives to us the most comprehensive account of God’s coming future judgment upon mankind for their rebellion against their Creator God.

There is a rescue mission for salvation of souls of men and women through Jesus Christ who has the solution over man’s greatest problem of death and judgment in hell for He alone “holds the keys of hell and of death” (Rev. 1:18b).

Jesus declared in Revelation 1:18 “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Jesus conquered death by His resurrection from the dead on the third day and was seen of above 500 witnesses for 40 days before He ascended to heaven at the right hand of the Father’s throne.

The study of the Book of Revelation holds the key to unlocking the door of understanding to current world events. As the future is unveiled before us in study of the Book of Revelation, it provides the clues to understanding current events leading to the Second Coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, the climatic reunion between the church, the bride of  Christ, and her bridegroom, Jesus Christ!

We are seeing the movement towards the formation of the Antichrist kingdom and believers need to be assured of ultimate victory as we are called to earnestly contend for the faith once delivered unto the saints. The time when our Lord will take His church to glory is at hand, nearer than we think!

Revelation 11:15 (KJV) And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

Let His church occupy till He come. Before the kingdom was to come in its final form as Revelation opens, the Lord ascended to heaven and will return after receiving His kingdom as the nobleman in Luke 19:15, His rebellious citizens and the work of His servants examined and scrutinized.

The Book of Revelation provides a sober picture of the judgment which awaits the enemies of Christ (Phil 3:17-18), where those who refused God’s grace will be judged by God’s wrath. The church is to work responsibly and fruitfully while awaiting His return.

John 12:26 (KJV) If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

Revelation opens with Christ’s admonition to the church on the traits of faithful and fruitful service (Rev. 1-3). With the rapture of the church, the scene opens in heaven in Rev. 4-5 as God unleashed His judgment upon earth during the 7-year Great Tribulation (Rev. 6-19). During this period, God will raise 144,000 Jewish evangelists to preach the gospel worldwide (Rev. 7, 14:4-5), the two witnesses – Moses and Elijah (Rev. 11:3-12) to authenticate Christ as the Saviour, and finally God sent an angel, never before, to preach the gospel in the air one last time (Rev. 14:6).

The Great Tribulation will also be a time where the wrath of God is outpoured upon the earth in judgment as never before. This is described in detail from Rev 6 – 19 with the series of judgment beginning with the 7 seals (Rev 6) followed by 7 trumpets (Rev 8-9) concluding with 7 bowls (Rev 16).

Meanwhile, the world braces itself for the rise of the Antichrist (Rev. 13:1-10,15-18) and the False Prophet (Rev. 13:11-14). The Antichrist gathers his massive army (220 million) to take control of Jerusalem and was defeated by Christ in His return from heaven with His saints (Rev. 19) to establish His thousand year rule on earth (Rev. 20:1-6) where Satan was bounded in a bottomless pit (Rev. 20:3) before a short-lived final rebellion (Rev. 20:7-10) before the Great White Throne Judgment where all who reject Christ will be cast into the lake of fire (Rev. 20:11-15). This present heaven and earth will be destroyed and God will create a new heaven and new earth for His people (Rev. 21-22).

Revelation 22:12,14 (KJV) And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be… 14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Let His church be ready! Amen.

Yours lovingly,
Pastor Lek Aik Wee
