(1) Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee

– A Majestic Melody Out Of Deafness

Being joyful is a hallmark of the Christian. Jesus said to His followers: “These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full” (John 15:11). The Apostle Paul reminds us that one of the “fruit of the spirit is…joy…” (Gal. 5:22). A joyless Christian would be a great contradiction.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God

The study of theology is most profitable to a man’s soul. In fact, every Christian should embark on a systematic study of God’s Word that will help him along the path of his spiritual growth. God’s Word is milk and meat to the soul. It nourishes and strengthens the inner man. How should a Christian approach the study of the Word of God?

Be good and obedient to their own husbands

Titus 2:5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

Titus exhorted the women in his congregation to be a good and obedient wife to her own husband so that the word of God would not be blasphemed. The word “blasphemed” means “be reproached”.

The testimony of God’s people would either glorify or blaspheme the word of God. Being godly and possessing Christ-like character speak volumes of our faith in the Lord. It testifies of a higher wisdom and prudence of living that is consistent to the will of God as revealed in His Word.

(1) Thanksgiving and Rejoicing

Psalm 118:1 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endureth for ever.

We remember God’s goodness and His grace as we commemorate Blessed Hope Bible-Presbyterian Church’s (BHBPC) First Anniversary.

The psalmist says in Psalm 100:4 “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.”

This is a picture of worship in ancient Israel. The people of God would enter the gates of Jerusalem and into the temple to present thanksgiving offerings.

Let the Lower Lights Be Burning – From the Story of a Shipwreck

Dwight L. Moody, famed evangelist of the last century, often told the moving story of a ship nearing the Cleveland harbour during a violet storm on Lake Erie. The waves rolled like mountains and not a star was to be seen, a boat, rocking and plunging, near the Cleveland harbour.

(1) Joy to the World

Christmas is the highest point of human history because it marks the fulfilment of God’s plan to save mankind from the curse of sin. Our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ alone can save us from our sins.

At our Christmas Praise Service, we rehearsed the great joy of our Saviour’s birth. The joy of Christmas begins with the joy of salvation. May we be strengthened to go out to share the good news to a dying world.
