Righteousness Exalteth a Nation

A nation where justice reigns, where there is righteous administration of the government, where law is upheld and order prevails, receives God’s favour. God exalts such a nation (Prov. 14:34).

In the past week, the nation mourns the death of Mr Lee Kuan Yew, architect of modern Singapore. Mr Lee Kuan Yew once said, “I’m very determined. If I decide that something is worth doing, then I’ll put my heart and souls to it. The whole ground can be against me, but if I know it is right, I’ll do it. That’s the business of a leader.”

Our late principal of the Far Eastern Bible College, the late Rev. Dr. Timothy Tow taught us, “Singapore law is taken from Indian law and Indian law from British law and British law from Roman law and Roman law from God’s laws as recorded by Moses in the Holy Scriptures.” Broadly speaking, that’s the basis for the Singapore constitution that is worth our defending.

The Role of Parents in a Christian Home (Part 2)

An exemplary father was recorded in the person of Job who prayed continually for his children, “And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually” (Job 1:5).

(1) Tracts

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

In BHBPC’s newsletter dated on 16 March 2014, it was reported that we received two printed tracts – “Will I Get to Heaven” and “Who is Jesus Christ” of 10,000 copies each and two invitation cards – “That Blessed Hope” and “Study of the Life of Christ” of 10,000 and 8,000 copies respectively as an answer to our prayers. We began distributing these tracts and invitation cards on 13 March 2014.

Pray and Faint Not!

Luke 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint…

The burdens of life can often be so overwhelming at times that they threaten to rob the believer of his confidence in God’s ability to help him through yet another impasse. This parable by our Lord Jesus in Luke 18:1-8 teaches us the lesson to keep looking to the Lord in such times: “men ought always to pray and not to faint”. Prayer is the believer’s power with God. This parable encourages us to never stop praying even in the toughest of circumstances.

(1) Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee

– A Majestic Melody Out Of Deafness

Being joyful is a hallmark of the Christian. Jesus said to His followers: “These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full” (John 15:11). The Apostle Paul reminds us that one of the “fruit of the spirit is…joy…” (Gal. 5:22). A joyless Christian would be a great contradiction.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God

The study of theology is most profitable to a man’s soul. In fact, every Christian should embark on a systematic study of God’s Word that will help him along the path of his spiritual growth. God’s Word is milk and meat to the soul. It nourishes and strengthens the inner man. How should a Christian approach the study of the Word of God?

Be good and obedient to their own husbands

Titus 2:5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

Titus exhorted the women in his congregation to be a good and obedient wife to her own husband so that the word of God would not be blasphemed. The word “blasphemed” means “be reproached”.

The testimony of God’s people would either glorify or blaspheme the word of God. Being godly and possessing Christ-like character speak volumes of our faith in the Lord. It testifies of a higher wisdom and prudence of living that is consistent to the will of God as revealed in His Word.
