Psalm 78:1-7 (KJV)

1 Maschil of Asaph. Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth. 2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: 3 Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. 4 We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.

Remembering the Reformation

The 16th century Protestant Reformation was a spiritual awakening that took place in Europe after 1000 years of the Dark Ages where the gospel was hid from the people by the Roman Catholic Church. The Reformation was in essence a movement back to the Bible. With it, the secret to true spiritual life was re-discovered – “How to be born again?”

Matthew 12:38-50 (KJV) 1 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. 39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

(1) Jesus Loves Me

Jesus said, “Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.” (Luke 18:17)

The children’s hymn, ‘Jesus Loves Me’ was based on this Bible verse. The hymn story is as follows:

“Two sisters, Anna and Susan Warner, lived near West Point, New York. They taught a Sunday-school Bible class in their home for West Point cadets. Between them, they wrote more than seventy books. In 1860, they collaborated in writing the novel ‘Say and Seal’, which became a best-selling book of that day.

Nehemiah 1:1-11 (KJV) 1 The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace, 2 That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.

John 14:1-3 (KJV)

1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
